SRS - Substance Abuse Professional Referral Services

If you have one of the following licensure requirements you qualify to become a SAP Referral Services (SRS) SAP Affiliate Provider:

a licensed Physician (Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy)

a licensed or certified Social Worker

a licensed or certified Marriage and Family Therapist

a licensed or certified Psychologist

a licensed or certified Employee Assistance Professional

a Drug and Alcohol Counselor certified by the National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors Certification Commission(NAADAC), by the International Certification Reciprocity Consortium/Alcohol and other Drug Abuse (ICRC) or by the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC)

Along with the above credentials to perform DOT evaluations you must be knowledgeable about and have clinical experience:

With diagnosis and treatment of alcohol and controlled substance-related disorders

With SAP functions as they relate to employer interests in safety-sensitive duties

With regulation 49 CFR Part 40 and DOT agency drug and alcohol testing rules

With key DOT drug testing requirements, including collections, laboratory testing, MRO review, and problems in drug testing

With key DOT alcohol testing requirements, including the testing process, the role of BAT's and STT's and problems in alcohol tests:

SAP qualifications and prohibitions

With the role of the SAP in the return-to duty process, including the initial employee evaluation, referrals for education and/or substance abuse treatment, the follow-up evaluation, continuing substance abuse treatment, recommendations and the follow-up testing plan

With evaluations, referrals for education and/or treatment, the follow-up evaluation, continuing treatment

With recommendations and the follow-up testing plan

With SAP consultations with employers, MROs and substance abuse treatment providers

With requirements for reporting, maintaining confidentiality and record keeping

With issues which SAPs confront in carrying out their duties under the program

You must retain current DOT Qualification Training and Testing certificates. You must also, complete and provide documentation every three years of 12 hours of continuing education, relevant to performing DOT SAP functions.

If you meet one of the above licensure requirements, however, you have no knowledge of the Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, you may qualify to receive DWI/DUI and Non-DOT Affiliate opportunities.
